Mission Protectas : Shuvaseesh Das

Who are you in a few words?

I am 38 years old, originally from Bangladesh with Indian roots. At the age of 19, I moved to London to study, where I met my wife 15 years ago. She is originally from Switzerland.

I have over 17 years of experience in the security industry, including at the National Gallery in London, the London School of Economics, various banks and financial institutions, and as a police officer at the London Met Police.

We moved to Switzerland for my wife’s job, and I now work as a Security Supervisor at a data center in Zurich. I have a master’s degree in photography and enjoy taking photos in my free time.

What motivated you to work at Protectas?

I enjoy working at Protectas because it is a customer-focused job where I can solve problems while staying in the security sector, which I love. Being part of a large global company like Protectas aligns with my passion and provides me with a platform to do what I love.

Can you tell us about your beginnings at Protectas?

During the pandemic, when we moved to Switzerland, I actively started looking for a job. A former colleague recommended Protectas to me, and coincidentally, I knew the area manager from a brief encounter in 2018. The onboarding process at Protectas was very smooth; I even canceled my vacation to start the role, and it was worth it.

And now, what are your responsibilities?

I am responsible for all security personnel and contractors during my shift at the data center. I coordinate with the landlord’s security department during emergency evacuations, report hazards, and manage access control, including issuing keys for highly sensitive areas.

I also organize monthly training sessions for other security officers, ensure accurate data entry in systems, conduct security checks, and serve as the main point of contact in emergencies to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in the data center.

What do you like about your job?

I enjoy working in the security industry, especially in a customer-oriented role where no two days are the same. The challenges that come with the job keep me alert and engaged. It’s a dynamic environment, and I love solving problems, which makes the work always interesting.

What is your biggest challenge, and how do you handle it?

To deal with the unpredictable nature of security work, I need to stay adaptable and remain calm under pressure.

I encourage clear communication by following the 5Ws: Why, Where, Who, What, and When. This helps me ask the right questions and ensures that we provide as much detail as possible when sharing information, covering all aspects of a situation.

Which value resonates with you the most and why?

I appreciate all three Protectas values: Integrity, Vigilance, and Helpfulness.

Integrity resonates with me the most because it aligns with my belief in honesty and transparency, even when no one is watching. This principle guides my actions and helps build trust in my role.

Vigilance is crucial because even simple attention to detail can prevent serious incidents.

Helpfulness is important to me because my job allows me to assist those in need. Whether on my way to work or in the data center, I always find opportunities to offer support, which is very fulfilling.
