Johannes Stein, Operational Manager, joined Protectas in 2011. Passionate about the field of security, he rose through the ranks thanks to his motivation and eagerness to learn. Today, he oversees a team of 90 employees in Zurich, emphasizing human values and a leadership focused on excellence.

Who are you in a few words? 

My name is Johannes Stein. I am 39 years old and have been working for Protectas for 13 years. I am originally from Germany, and every day I cross the border between Germany and Zurich to go to work. 

I studied sports science and completed training in osteopathy. 

What motivated you to work at Protectas? 

I have always been interested in the world of security. When a friend told me that Protectas was hiring, I applied and got the job. I quickly became passionate about my role, and Protectas rewarded my motivation by offering me training as a security and surveillance specialist. 
 
The company does not expect us to be experts from the start, but if you are motivated and have the right attitude, a multitude of opportunities can open up. 
 
Over the years, I have met many colleagues. We all come from different backgrounds and have varied journeys, but we share a common goal: to contribute to a safer world. 

Can you tell us about your early days at Protectas? 

I joined Protectas part-time in May 2011. My initial goal was to earn money to finance training in osteopathy. 
 
I liked the sector so much that three months later, I switched to a full-time position. At first, I was in charge of a parking control center in Baden. Shortly after, I joined the fixed surveillance team for a research laboratory.  

After three years in this role, I was promoted to deputy site manager, responsible for the security team. Later, I held various site manager positions for international clients. 

And now, what are you responsible for? 

Since August 2024, I have been the operational manager for a large multinational technology company in Zurich, with over 5'000 employees on its site.  

I supervise a team of approximately 90 employees who ensure the client’s security across 15 buildings, 24/7. My responsibilities range from service planning to invoicing. 

What do you like about your job? 

It is extremely varied, and you never get bored, which is very stimulating. I also greatly value contact with people, whether colleagues or clients. 

I enjoy teamwork, which allows us to handle all kinds of incidents and prevent situations that could have serious consequences. 

What is your biggest challenge, and how do you deal with it? 

Time management is currently my biggest challenge. I try to optimize my workload by delegating appropriately, planning effectively, and using the right technical tools. 

Which value best represents you and why? (among integrity, vigilance, helpfulness) 

All three values are very important to me. But if I had to choose just one, I would say helpfulness. People are at the center of my work. This is why I strive to support my team and adopt a people-centered leadership approach.  

Since employees have obligations towards Protectas and the client, it is my duty to create positive working conditions and always be ready to assist them, even if it sometimes means going beyond office hours. 

This value also applies to the client. In my view, a helpful attitude is essential for successful collaboration. This involves being open to innovation, exploring different options, exceeding expectations, and approaching the future constructively.  

I am convinced that these principles are crucial to ensuring the client's security, the success of the mission, and, consequently, our success.
