Discover the "Journée Oser Tous les Métiers": Students Explore Behind the Scenes at Protectas

On November 14, Protectas welcomed 7th to 9th-grade students to its Lausanne and Zurich locations. The day’s agenda included immersive activities, interactive discoveries, engaging discussions, and plenty of enthusiasm.

An Engaging Immersion in Lausanne

In Lausanne, the day began with a presentation about Protectas, its role in society, its values, and the diversity of its activities. Students learned that security roles go far beyond stereotypes, involving vigilance, responsibility, and communication at their core.

Students then had the opportunity to try on security equipment, including uniforms and professional accessories. This hands-on experience allowed them to step into the shoes of a security officer and better understand the practical requirements of the job.

The display of tools and accessories also sparked great interest: radios, bulletproof vests, handcuffs, pepper spray, and other technological devices highlighted the importance of innovation in the security field.

The morning ended on a high note with a presentation by the canine unit, a highlight that captivated the students. Patton, a Dutch Shepherd and a vital member of the canine team, accompanied by his handler, performed impressive demonstrations of obedience, search, and attack skills. Students learned how dogs are trained to detect substances or mobile phones in prisons, secure locations, and assist in high-risk situations.

Interactive Workshops in Zurich

In Zurich, Protectas offered an equally dynamic program. Students participated in an immersive morning at one of our retail sector clients. In a simulated scenario, they acted as store detectives, discovering methods for preventing theft and responding to unusual situations.

Next, they visited our alarm monitoring center, the operational hub of our activities. Through simulated alarms, students observed real-time processes:

• problem identification
• data analysis
• implementation of intervention measures

This experience highlighted the importance of speed, coordination, and precision in this profession.

To round off their exploration, students met the intervention team, a unit working closely with the alarm center to respond swiftly on the ground. Team members shared fascinating stories from their daily operations.

Finally, the students participated in a brief self-defense workshop before heading home, enriched with new experiences.

Impact Beyond Exploration

For Protectas, participating in the JOM is a valuable opportunity to encourage young people to consider a career in a sometimes-overlooked but exciting field. This day also underscores the importance of diversity, showing that security roles are accessible to everyone, regardless of gender stereotypes.

The students’ enthusiasm and numerous questions demonstrated how enriching and inspiring this experience was. By opening our doors, we aim to spark interest in security careers while enhancing understanding of their vital contribution to society.
