Raphaël Mansue, Security Officer, Vaud
A Quick and Coordinated Response as a Team
When Raphaël noticed that the fire security system had been activated due to a potential fire in the grocery store, he immediately decided to go to the location indicated by the system.
Meanwhile, Quentin, from the technical service, verified the accuracy of the alert by making phone calls, while Raphaël met with the store manager for an initial inspection.
Once the fire was confirmed, Quentin joined them, and they noticed smoke on the ceiling. At the same moment, a bakery employee managed to locate the fire’s origin in a compressor positioned above a refrigerator.
Containing the Fire Before It Spreads
Without hesitation, Officer Mansue rushed to the bakery, identified the fire, grabbed a fire extinguisher, and began containing the flames by climbing onto a shelf to get as close as possible to the source.
A few minutes later, Quentin arrived quickly with a second fire extinguisher.
To facilitate the intervention, a ladder was brought in, allowing Quentin to climb onto the refrigerator and attack the fire from a better position.
Two off-duty firefighters who were present at the scene also stepped in, reinforcing the security officers’ efforts with three additional fire extinguishers. Thanks to this rapid and collective response, the fire was contained before it could spread further.
Securing the Premises and Handover to Authorities
Once the fire was under control, on-duty firefighters arrived to conduct tests to determine the fire’s origin and assess the residual temperature. Although the temperature was decreasing, they decided to remain on-site for further observation.
A few minutes later, the local police arrived to collect initial witness statements. Meanwhile, Raphaël and Quentin evacuated customers near the fire zone and secured the area.
After 45 minutes of intervention, the firefighters confirmed that the situation was under control and decided to leave.
Our agent then makes a final round of the premises, resets the fire doors, and assesses the damage.
A Necessary Closure to Ensure Safety
Since the maintenance team was not available for an immediate intervention, the decision was made to temporarily close the store to ensure the safety of employees and customers.
After a final check, Officer Mansue leaves the premises, allowing the competent teams to continue analyzing the cause of the fire.
An Incident Managed Successfully Thanks to a Rapid Response
This incident highlights the importance of constant vigilance and effective coordination in emergency situations.
Thanks to the quick reaction of the on-site teams and the support of the firefighters, a potentially devastating fire was contained before it could cause significant damage.
